How long is the waiting period?

Written by Fetch

There is a fifteen (15) day waiting period after the effective date of the policy during which we can’t cover any illness for your pet. However, accident coverage begins immediately on the policy’s effective date.

There is a 180-day exclusionary period on orthopedic conditions, including but not limited to hip dysplasia, cruciates, and patellas. Waiting periods and exclusionary periods may vary depending on state. Refer to your policy’s Terms and Conditions for specific details. Here’s how you can find that info: Additionally, the hip exclusion cannot be waived, while the knee/cruciate exclusion can be waived under specific conditions.

  • Make sure you’re logged into the Fetch member portal

  • Go to Account

  • Then, go to Policy

  • Next, hit Details

  • Finally, go to View policy documents

Claims for orthopedic conditions may be denied under the following circumstances:

  • During the Waiting Period: If signs or symptoms of an orthopedic condition occur within the 180-day exclusionary period, the claim will be denied.

  • Pre-existing Conditions: Any condition with clinical signs or a diagnosis before the policy’s effective date or during the waiting period is considered pre-existing and not covered.

The good news is that we offer an option to have the six (6) month cruciate exclusion waived. If your pet is examined by a vet within the first one hundred eighty (180) days of the policy and the medical record specifically notes that both knees are healthy, you’ll be covered as soon as we receive the documentation from your vet.Fetch does not send notifications when waiting periods end, so we recommend tracking timelines manually based on your policy’s effective date. Please note that this waiver applies only to the knees, and the 180-day exclusion for hips cannot be waived.
